Trader Joe’s Ricotta & Spinach Tortelloni
Trader Joe’s Ricotta & Spinach Tortelloni is one of my personal favorites from the freezer section. It’s inexpensive, tastes delicious, and is a pretty impressive looking dish too.
When I started enjoying these was when I had a full-time job at a retailer, and I needed something inexpensive (I made no money there), quick to make in the microwave (the lines for the appliance were always long), and something that would be filling to get me through balance of my day.
Another need of the dish was that it had to taste decent, and I wanted it to be pretty healthy for me. Sure I could have pigged out on the machine at the store, but I would have weighed even more than I did then, and that would not have been a good outcome for me.
This meal is 10.6 oz, and has ricotta cheese, spinach, red pesto, cherry tomatoes, zucchini, red bell peppers, and of course tortelloni. As you can see in the photos, it’s a pretty dish, and if it weren’t in the stark white box, but instead on some nice fine china, it could pass as a chef prepared meal. Yes, I am that serious, it tastes pretty darn good!
Another thing that I enjoy about the dish is that is not too salty, yet it is very flavorful to the taste. That is often an issue with frozen meals, LOTS of salt acting as “flavor”. Not healthy, and not a good route to go when having a quick meal.
The price is a real bargain, and that is another reason it is a favorite. This meal at my local Trader Joe’s is a meager 1.99 plus a little tax. It’s very filling like I said before, and at 1.99 you can’t beat it for a quick meal. Try to get anything from Lean Cuisine, Healthy Choice, Weight Watchers, or others for that price that tastes half as good.
I usually like to have Trader Joe’s baby carrots with this dish, and maybe a small cup of yogurt for desert. Beverage of choice is often just plain tap water. We have pretty good water here where I live, so no big deal for me.
